how to get datamaster to work?

I have the trial vs of datamaster on my laptop. I'm pretty sure i installed the right driver, after it was installed it reconized the cable. Does that tell me it is installed correctly?

After this i turned on the laptop, plugged in the cable, started the camaro and opened datamaster. nothing happened, it didn't show any records. I tried to record and nothing happened either. What am i missing?

What operating system are you using on your laptop? My Window Vista wouldn't allow me to do anything. You can click on something to make the laptop work in XP. Click on the ALDL record data and it will tell you how many free trial you have and then go from there. Go to the help and read all the info if this doesn't work.

Critter, I assume your hardware installed the USB or Serial cable on com port 4 since you mentioned it above. I have a USB cable and it was also installed on com port 4. This is how my Datamaster-EE works.. Open DataMaster, click file, click record ALDL data, you get a warning that you have xx free recordings left, when you click OK you eat up one of your free ones, after clicking OK the Serial Data Acquisition Screen pops up,. click setup on this screen, then click com port and if your PC has set the cable to port 4 it should be one of the selections. If not then go back to Windows- ctl panel -system,-hardware, -device manager, -com ports and see what com port the USB cable is assigned to.

Yes, i use the laptop to run the car out on the highway and if i have any problems getting it to work i hook the desktop up in the garage. It took 4 free trial runs up before i could get it to work. This way i was aware of all the issues before i had to use the laptop.
