How do you get codes out of a 94z LT1???

I've got what looks to be the OBD1 style connector, if I jumper pins a & b like the old style GM systems the cooling fan defaults to high with the key on/engine not running. The check engine light will go out and not flash. I've got an OBD2 scanner on my laptop but it is definitely an OBD1 connector on the car. My car is running excessively rich with a check engine light on and I have no way to get the codes out of it. I've got a cheap Actron code scanner (does the same thing as jumpering the pins) and it does the same thing as far as making the light go out and turning the cooling fan on high. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks,
Mike from Michigan.

You'll need either a real OBDI code reader, or an OBDI scan tool of some sort. As you found out, jumping the pins doesn't work.

Go to autozone or other parts store where they will read your codes for free.

Autozone doesn't pull OBDI codes.

I worked there for a year, if they're not lazy, they will do it. They have a haynes manual for it, I've pulled codes on other types of cars even including an old bmw I think where I had to jump pins in a fuse box under the hood.

I worked there as well. We weren't given any kind of equipment for pulling codes in an OBDI car.

I followed these instructions, but picked up 12 volts from the serial port instead of the cig lighter

If your thinking of doing things this way PM me, ill try to draw up the schematic I used
