How do I learn to tune?

I have been interested in this for some time now. I am aware of the lt1 edit and Tunercat software. How difficult is learning to tune and how detailed are these two softwares or is there another type that would be better?

thanx

From what i've gathered...HPTuners is novice friendly i think...I'm pretty sure with Edit you have to know what alot of parameters mean.

Tunercat would be less expensive and probably easier to use getting started.

I'm told the help file with it is very good as well.

Thanx Guys,
Would it be a good idea to get a scanmaster first?

start here: http://para.noid.org/~lj/PCM%20Tutorial/PCMtutorial.htm

you need to know what everything hooked to the pcm does before you begin to experiment. self-explanatory to a certain extent after that.

Re: How do I learn to tune?

Tuning a PCM is not very difficult. However, people forget that you must know what the engine is doing in order to determine what to tune or change for the better.
Therefore, not only would you be buying tuner software, but also a scanner. The scanner is critical in knowing what the engine is doing and figuring out what it needs to make more horsepower, or to idle more smoothly, or improve drivibility.
