How do I fix rich open loop idle?

My car is very rich at idle that there is a cloud in the garage and it smells like raw fuel. What is the best way to tune this so it's not so rich? I have the CC306 cam.

Tune the car in open loop. Besides running right when it's in open loop, your tables will be much better so the PCM will not have to do much adjusting when it hits closed loop to compensate. There are many ways to do this. One of the easiest is to put in a program that does not allow the car to go into closed loop until it gets very warm. This is in the constants table on TunerCat. Just set the temp for closed loop all the way up. Once you are done tuning, simply bring the temp back down so the PCM will engage closed loop again.

Do I have to have a wideband O2 sensor or do I just keep adjusting the fuel until it doesn't smell?

WBO2 is nice but you can also use Datamaster and just shoot to get your BLM's around 128.

A Wideband or your BLM readings are kinda worthless with a CC306 cam at idle. There's just so much reversion and contamination that the O2's just give the PCM bad feedback. Probably best to do a PE idle flash and keep leaning out until you get some surge. Then back off a tad. Do a search for PE Idle. You'll find a good bit on "how to"
