Question Help with Tunercat

I finally ordered tunercats. Now when I try to read my PCM it says incorrect message sent. I have been emailing TC back and forth but I still cant read the PCM. I have one of Steve Ruse's cables. DOes anybody have an idea of what might be going wrong?

Thanks

ok

try pulling the PCM fuse for about 20 sec.

you must be in DOS mode.. not the command prompt in windows.

next go ahead and pull the fan fuse too before so you dont run your battery too low. now when you are told to turn the key to the ON position.. make sure you count to 15 before hitting proceed.

When I try to read I use the pull down menu in CATS. I think it is in options. Then it tells me to turn the key to run but dont crank, then I hit OK and the fans come on and then it says wrong message sent. Is that the right thing to do or is there something I am not doing?

try rebooting the computer into DOS mode. you must hit F8 at startup until a window appears with a list of options. one of them is DOS command prompt... select that. then type in flshread and proceed like usual.

He doesn't need to use DOS. The new version of TunerCat allows you to program and read right in TunerCat itself.

ru2slo_99- make sure you have the correct com port selected. Also, can you read with datamaster or freescan or whatever you have? Are you sure it isn't a problem with the cable?
Does the computer you are using have a serial port or are you using a USB to serial adapter or something?

Sounds like he's using the Windows version, I prefer DOS but have not tried Windows yet.

I am using a serial port on the computer. I have tried every port number I can find. I have no trouble using freescan and datamaster. Where exactly do you change the port on the computer. I have been going to settings, acessability options, general, smartkey devices settings. The comm port was set on 1 with 300 baud. On tunercat the port was set on 1 also.

If I change the port on the tunercat options, it will not do anything. If I change the port number in the acessability options it does the same thing.

I also have flshread and flshprog. When I try to use flshread it will not do anything. As soon as I push the p button, it cuts off. With the tunercat as soon as I push ok for the read, it tunrs the fans on and as soon as the blue line gets about half way it cuts off and says incorrect message sent.

Hmm...it isn't the cable or the port then I guess.
First time I tried to use TunerCat was on a friends car and we were having the same problems. Most of the time it would tell me that I would get an incorrect message sent, and the times it would actually start a read it would get half-way through and then stop.
That was when I was trying to use the DOS stuff on XP and a dos boot disk. Then I downloaded the (at that time) new windows version of the read and program software. Everything has worked fine since then. And now with the read and program right in tunercat, I haven't had any problems either.

Have you tried using a different computer other than the one you have to do this?

I tried it on my PC at home and it did nothing. I am going to try another laptop tomorrow. I hope that works.

have you tried tunercats flash.exe? its a windows based program that you can download from tunercat as a trial version. i have to use this now because i upgraded to windows XP and it has worked flawless for me.

since you have windows ME.. you still have DOS which i almost like using better because ME is really unstable. just do like i said above with booting it up in DOS and try the flshread that way.

I tried it on my other laptop and it read perfectly. TC told me to turn off the virus protection on this computer and try it. I have not done that yet. When I do try it I will post the results.

Thanks
