Help with hooking up laptop to PCM

I got my ALDL OBD1 cable today with USB connector. I have tried ttsdatamaster and pcm comm. Nothing is showing up. I am getting connection failed or no connection.

Is not as simple as dowloading the software and plugging in the cable to the diagnostic port under the dash?

please share with us what you did to "fix" the problem. I am having similar problems and cannot connect to my ECM. Perhaps YOUR fix is the same one I need.

I thought the drivers would be on the disc and did not allow WinXP to do its thing with setting up the USB. Also it was defaulted to the wrong port COMM4 I think?
