Flashing "Change Oil" light

96 Impala SS
T56 conversion using F-body PCM code.

Interesting one which I've never even hear of before...

About a week or so ago, the Change Oil light came on (coincidentially, it's the first time in over 8 years that it's actually come on when I was due for an LOF). It's also the first time the light has been on since the T56 conversion where I had Bryan Herter use F-Body code.

So I changed the oil and I did the usual "accelerator pedal 3 times to the floor within 5 seconds while the car was on and not running". The light flashed 3 times and went away. Reset.

Even drove it around that night... no light.
The next morning, I start it up and the light it on. So I shut off the car, switch the key to "On" without cranking it over, depress the pedal three times in 5 seconds and the light starts flashing...... and flashing... and flashing. Even turned off the car. Started the car back up anbd began to drive.... still flashing. it flashed for about 4 or 5 minutes, then finally went away. All the while oil pressure is OK, car running normal.

Any ideas?

So your LT1 impala has a change oil light? I dont think the Fbodies got that until '98 with the LS1's.

Yep... all 94, 95,and 96 Impalas had it. The reset method wa simple on the 94's... it was a button next to the fuse panel. In 95 and 96, they introduced some lame method that requires you to turn the car to "ON" (but don't crank the motor) and depress the gas pedal to WOT three times within 5 seconds.

Yeah, the later method must be common now, even my '99 Seirra has that. I just thought it was a LS1 'engine family' PCM thing. Better ask Bryan about your impy dash with the Fbod PCM as I'm faily certain (and mines an '97) only the '98 and up Fbods got the light.
