Exactly what does tps% used for?

Is the tps% signal used for anything? or does the computer use the voltage signal, then translates into a more comprehendable measurement for us ?,reason I ask is I am having "full throttle only" shift problems, the tps signal runs smothly to 100% then hits 4% on topend and stayes there untill a engine restart (weird huh)but voltage works normal with normal readings?,I was wondering wether this could be a tuning issue?

that is odd. are you sure it only does this when you hit 100% or does it happen too at 75%..so anything over 75% or WOT as far as the computer is concerned. and too add...the TPS% always returns to 0% when the car is turned off.

I am not sure what kind of problem you are describing, but if I were you I would put a voltmeter on the TPS and be sure it's in the ~1v range with a closed throttle and close to 5v at WOT. If it isn't, I'd replace it.

Its like I said,It runs smoothly to 100%,then the last 10%(?) or so of throttle travel hits 4%,and stays stuck untill a restart occurs, tried replacing the tps but it did not help,I still cant beleive this happens while voltage works normaly.Iv had this problem since last spring(trans refusing to shift under full throotle)but thought it was a trans problem, couple months ago I scanned(used 3 diff. types) the car as I getting reddy to take the heads off I discoverd this problem,I guess I'll have to talk to the place that done the dynotune!

well you know if the voltage still fluctuates properly then you really dont have a problem since that is what your PCM uses anyway. im pretty sure the TPS% is for YOUR entertainment only.

oh sorry i forgot all about the real problem...your shifting. the 2 may be linked but the TPS sensor problem wont make your tranny not shift. i think that has to do with the line pressures but i dont have an auto so im not sure on that...gotta be computer controled though, right? who tuned your car? i think i remember people saying Bryan Herter can fix this sorta thing with his mail order tune. you could send him your tuned file and he could adjust the tranny for you.
