Question engine idle and throttle setting

I wonder if anyone can give me some ideas for what is happening with my engine management. I resently had SLP header put in with a Borla exhaust. I had the Cats removed. The engine runs ok but now the check engine has started to come on. I have some simulaters on order. Will this help the idle control and throttle setting. When I am driving the engine wants to maintain a high rev. Around 2000rpm. Only when i kick the throttle and come to a complete stop will it idle back down. and it does not idle well. I hope this all makes sense. would a LS1 edit be of use or just reset the PCM. Wait for the sims and see what happens. thanks.
