egr and timing advance ???s

How many degrees does the timing advance when the PCM activates the EGR?

What RPMS and throttle conditions does the EGR open?

If you block off the EGR is it correct to pull a little bit of timing to compesate for it being blocked?

thanks in advance.

Hey I'm just learning but I would guess it would depend on how much your egr system affects your MAP values. When the EGR opens it WILL increase your MAP values which WILL increase your timing via a "MAP vs Spark Advance" table.
AFAIK, the EGR system may operate under any low load, or part throttle conditions once the engine is warmed up.
I dont think you would need to adjust your timing tables at all if you block off your egr.
Just my .01, Hope that helps.

Thanks for the response.

Based on what i've read about EGR function, it increases spark advance on top of the map vs spark advance tables. The premise for this is that the EGR introduces inert gases into the cylinders to lower the combustion temperature and reduce NOX emmissions. The lower cylinder temperatures allow more advance which is why when the EGR is activated it advances the timing more than just based on just the map vs spark advance would dictate.

Is that correct or does it only advance timing based on the map vs spark timing table???? I too am just learning.

thanks in advance.

Well I dont know, but I have never heard/read that, and it seems like there would be another table for it if that was the case.
Someone else should be able to answer this, anyone?

Can anyone verify that this article is accurate? it sounds like it describes my situation of blocked off egr perfectly. My slp headers didn't come with the elbow which they only include in the install kit so i was forced to do it. Damn you SLP. It doesn't run well below 2k rpms at light throttle loads, doesn't violently buck the car, just shakes the shifter a little and you can feel it in the car a lil.
