Editers/Tuners

Anyone who uses a laptop to connect to their lt1 pcm! I need to know what kind of laptop you are using (ie brand, cpu speed, ram, year, etc) so that I can buy another laptop that will work on my car. My wife's HP laptop I guess is too new and none of the serial to usb converters that I have tried so far have worked. Thanks in advance for any input.

Also, has anyone ever heard of the PCMCIA serial ports for newer laptops NOT working, I'm looking into this as an option and don't want to waste that much money

I use an old Fujitsu Lifebook 133mhz 16mb ram. (circa 1994-96?) Seems to work just fine. I picked it up at the ol' used computer store for $75...

Get a port replicator not a usb to serial adapter. I use a keyspan upr-112 and have had no problems.

nextag didn't have good reviews on that product... 1/2 said it didn't even work on the computer.... have you heard of any of the port replicators (specifically the PCMCIA cards) NOT working?

I use an old Toshiba p2 233 with 64mb ram running win 98. I like to read and write to the pcm in DOS mode....less can go wrong IMO. I have a newer laptop that I log runs with(batterys last longer), but I still use the old 233 to edit with because it never has failed me and fried a pcm. You can pick up one cheap on Ebay.

Re: Editers/Tuners

Just got my PCMCIA card yesterday, it worked great on my wifes new laptop. Took two data runs last night, will be analyzing and adjusting today...
