Decreased cranking duration

I always wondered why my car seemed to start better the colder it got, which i felt is counter-intuitive. Anyways I think I figured it out.

Looking at the crank spark advance vs. coolant temp, and the prime pulse width vs. coolant temp tables, it seems like the stock tune decreases the amount of advance and pulse width a great deal from 8*C to 32*C so all I did was match the values in the 20*C and 32*C cells in both tables to the 8*C cell values, and now even after sitting for a few days. all I have to do is bump the starter and it fires up.

Not a performance related tuning issue, but something I thought others might appreciate.

Mine takes longer to start than I would like too. When stock, it would fire up very powerfully, now it is soft like....almost like it barely wants to fire up.

I will try this and see what happens.

Thanks for sharing.

I've always thought my LT1 is very lazy starting for a modern EFI car, but never paid attention to whether it varies with temp.

Will have to look into that.

i just modified the following three tables two days ago with great success crank spark advance vs. coolant temp, and the prime pulse width vs. coolant temp tables, and the crank ve vs. map vs. rpm table. Decreased the prime and ve tables by 10%. and also increased the crank spark table by a couple of degrees where. as soon as i turn the key the car starts right up.

Thanks for the feedback, glad to see it worked for someone else. It's possible that advancing the crank timing is going to make things a little harder on the starter, but I wouldn't think it would be much harder. Just something to keep in mind if you have a weak starter or battery.

Also, if anyone has a nice performance upshift and downshift tables they'd like to share I'd appreciate it. I'm having trouble getting mine dialed in.
