Which is data port on 95?

I'm trying to install my scanmaster on a 95 Z28. Which pin is the data comm port for the white wire? I'm assuming it's one of these????

EDIT: Would it also be ok to ground this through the terminal?
Which one of these is it?

Don't know if this'll help or not: www.obdii.com/connector.html

Thanks, but 95 F-bodies were OBD I.

True, but thought they had OBDII connectors and it might help.

Re: Which is data port on 95?

So pin 9 is the data port? Could I use the ground (pin 4 or 5) and the power source (pin 16) for the scanmaster? This would be great so that I won't have more wires running everywhere. Thanks.

The answer is in the links in your own post.

What does the scanmaster manual say about drawing power from the ALDL port?

The ALDL power pin can be used to power very low-power circuits. Don't know anything about a scanmaster, so no idea what kind of power requirement it has.

Pins 5 and 4 are not identical. One is signal ground and one is power ground. Off top of head don't recall which is which. Pinouts can be found on the web and in your FSM.

I figured the answer was in one of those links, but there are two places labeled "data", so I wanted to know which one. I don't have any instructions from whoever made the scanmaster on how to install it, just whatever Fred's website has. What's the difference between the signal ground and power ground? I think I used the pin 4 for ground and 16 for power and it all worked fine. I knew it had to be ok since I have another friend who made his own scanner and it runs off the port as well. I'll snap a pic for anyone who looks up this thread later.

Sorry, I missed that. Pin 9 is the one you want.

The aldlif.jpg linked above says 4 is power ground. Would be smart to verify with the FSM though.

Re: Which is data port on 95?

The only ScanMaster wire you MUST connect to an ALDL pin is the white wire. You can connect the ScanMaster ground (black) to any good chassis ground screw, and the ScanMaster +12V power (red) to any switched or unswitched power source - I used the cigarette lighter wire. Why clutter up the ALDL with unneeded connections.

I connected the white wire to the back of the ALDL connector, and included a micro-switch to disconnect it so a scanner or programer could be connected without interference from the ScanMaster.

Thanks Fred. The thing is that I bought the scanmaster used, so there isn't a lot of wire there so I'd have to add more wire to go three seperate places. Instead, I just used some gold computer connector pins to plug the wire into the ALDL. It doesn't seem cluttered to me since I can't really see it anyway. Does it matter which ground I use, which would be better?

I would use the power ground. Stay away form the signal ground.

And would that be pin 4 or 5?

Re: Which is data port on 95?

You have to check the diagrams.... I never worked on a 95. Looking at Shoebox's "jumper" diagram, appears he is using pin #5 to connect to the scanner, so that would appear to be the "signal" ground. You need to verify that.

Ok, that's what I thought also. When we tuned my pcm, we used the 5th pin as well, so I'm plugged into the 4th pin for now and it's working fine. If you get this, shoebox, your input would be greatly appreciated, as always.
