Computer tuners

so do these things actually work very well? My buddy has one on his auto v6 mustang and it seems to have made a difference. It can now screech the tires when it shifts on 275s.

For my car what effect would one of these have?

Lol! The canned tune handhelds work pretty decently, I've heard tunes for some vehicles are better then others.
