code 29...fans on all the time

Just had my engine scanned...code 29. The SES light comes on at about 60F and the fans come on at the exact same time and stay on permanently. The temp guage does not go any higher than 60F. THe gas mileage has also dropped about 40 miles from a tank in city driving.

ANy ideas?

Peter

What year car and engine? 29 is the code for the common AIR pump problem on an LT1. Check the AIR pump fuse.
The fans are programmed to come on in most instances of the SES lamp. Get rid of the code and the fans will go off.

Check the fuse for the AIR pump. If its blown, you get DTC 29, and the fan comes on, as Shoebox noted. If you replace the fuse the light will go out. If the fuse continues to blow, unplug the harness connector from the AIR pump, then replace the fuse, and the SES light will go out (OBDI only).

There is a recall on tha 1995-1997 AIR pumps.
