In car tuning?

I was thinking about MadZ28 tuning, but thought, what happens when I change something, or if its not right? Do I have to send it back?
Or do I have to buy a cord then? if I have to buy a cord it doesnt seem as cost effective does it?

I guess my question is whats really the biggest difference in tuning methods? and is one really better then the other?

Tunning is not that easy.. Lots to read and lots to experiment with...

Its better to go with madwolf since he has been around for a while...

It will not be the best possible tunning since he is not there to see what the car is doing, but if you send him a few log files its a good idea

My suggestion would be to convert to an OBD1. The tunning programs like Tunercat are alot cheaper than OBD2. Just get an OBD1 coversion and mail order tune from Madwolf to get you started. Then buy Tunercat which will allow you to copy and edit the files you already have. They also make a Tunercat that allows real time tuning as well but it cost more.

Those just monitor and record sensor data, they don't change anything.

Why is ODB1 Better? there has to be a reason that everything uses 2 now isnt there?

I dont want ot have to change a whole bunch of everything to get this to work ether, seems like the coverting and then madz28 tunning and hten the tunnercat woudl cost way more then jsut the madz28 tunning.

but with ODB2 madZ28 tunning can I get him to change things? like if I add soemthing? or do I have to send it back to him?

Also can I program out the skip shift thing? what else can tunning do for me besides performance?

There is a lot you are missing here, you really need to do a lot more research into tuning before asking some of the questions you are asking. Yes, if you change things on your car (such as new cam, gears, head porting, etc.) and you need a new tune, you'll have to get a new programming done. Whether you do it yourself, have Madwolf do it, or have it dyno tuned, its up to you. You don't sound like you know much about tuning, so unless you are prepared to spend plenty of time learning, do it yourself is probably out of the question (most of us here who do tuning, myself, Madwolf, Dan K are just a few examples, have been doing this for a long time, most of us at least 2 years). Dyno tuning is expensive, and it really isn't necessary unless you have some radical modifications. Mail order tuning is probably your best bet, but then again, you fail to mention what you have done to your car and why you want tuning. If you have a stock car now, but plan on doing things such as a cam and head porting, you'd probably be better off just waiting until you do those mods before you have it tuned. If you don't plan on doing anything to you car other than bolt-ons, then by all means, have Madwolf tune it and get more power out of it. As for the OBD1 and OBD2 thing, the ONLY reason why vehicles today use OBD2 is because government emissions regulations require it. OBD1 is better is every respect (with the except of the OBD1 A4 high stall annoyance, which can still be fixed, it just takes a lot to do it) than OBD2, because it doesn't have all the extra emissions programmed in. To put it simply, if you get tuning now and change something in the future, you will need to have Madwolf reprogram you PCM if you want the correct tune.

thanks, your right, I really have NO idea at all.
My plan is for cam (cc306) 1.6 rr, and LTs, all at one time, but then a year later (or so) I will buy new heads.

and I have M6, so would ODB1 be better then? that will also make all my emmisions stuff useless right? does that effect anything?
