Car is throwing two Crank Position Codes - P0335 & 6

Both of those codes deal with the Crank Position Sensor, one saying the voltage is out of range and the other saying a malfunction exists. My gearhead intuition tells me to try and check out the wires that go into the sensor and possibly replace it. Any other ideas?

Yes. Or if you didn't want to mess with it, you could find someone to disable the trouble codes in the PCM for you since the crank sensor is only used for misfire detection on the LT1.

Not sure on the '97, but LS1's normally require a variation learn procedure if it you replace it.

I haven't confirmed if this procedure is necessary on the LT1, but if it is, it's *probably* not going to be an issue.

On the LS1, it's generally only an issue when a PCM from a different engine family has been swapped in - e.g. 5.3L LM7 PCM used with a 5.7L LS1 engine - when the engine would exhibit different crankshaft speed change characteristics due to a misfire.

However, if it is an issue on the LS1, you need a Tech2 to initiate the crank relearn procedure.

thanks for the help everyone. i should be fine without it, or so I was told. its not like an LS1. However, I am not sure if I installed the Crank Position Sensor Reluctor on the crank gear. One person I know says this is causing the problem. Is that true?

Yes, without it you will get a check engine light and the PCM will not be able to detect misfiring.

If you didnt put the reluctor on, that would definitely cause the problem.

You can disable the check in the PCM (to disable the check engine light). I had to do this when I adapted my OBD1 Impala SS to run an OBD2 PCM - the OBD1 LT1 did not have a crank sensor.

Definitely. It won't work without the reluctor. Also, your accessory belt may not line up properly.
