Car runs fine, but cannot read PCM

I did a seach because I remebered a few people talking about this awhile ago, but none seem to had the solution, and now my car is doing it. This is my 3rd PCM, other 2 I had no trouble programming besides the 2 supid times when my laptop battery went from 75% to 5% in 5 seconds and fried them. This PCM I cannot read at all, the car runs fine, but I cannot read it at all with tunercat. Datamaster works for 5 seconds then cuts out for 5, then repeats, not necessarily 5 seconds for each just sort of randomly, but tunercat I can never get a read off of it. Anyone have any ideas/solutions?

I ran into this same thing last night. I thought I could read the PCM with TunerCat, save the .bin file, disconnect it, and just program it later. When I hooked it back up to the PCM, all I got was "Invalid Response from PCM." Car runs fine, just can't get TunerCat to communicate. I'll let you know if I figure something out.

PCM Programmed!

I did 3 things, and then tried again and I got my PCM programmed. Could be a combination of all 3...who knows.
1. Moved the .bin file out of the tuner cat directory from my original memory read.
2. Reinstalled TunerCat
3. Took my car in and had the PCM read wtih a Tech1 just to be sure it was readable.

Good luck!

I wiped the hdd and installed win98 to the laptop, still no reading. I either get no responce from pcm or incorrect info error. So I think its either the cable or the wiring harness.
Anyone know a way to "hotwire" the harness, basically just take a harness from another car just attach 12 volts to the proper wires, and the other wires right to the cable?
Or a way to test the aldl cable?

Re: Car runs fine, but cannot read PCM

I finally setup the pcm at a home-made bench, and it tuned fine. My guess is that the connection wire from the aldl connector under the dash is loose or nicked somewhere along the line.

Check for a blown fuse for the ADLC needs to supply 12 volts to interface.
Normally the ADLC is on same fuse as cigerette lighter.
