Cant scan 95 TA with AutoXray 2000
Cant scan 95 TA with AutoXray 2000
I have a 95 TA that im trying to pull codes from, but my scanner doesnt seem to work. I called AutoXray and had the GM "Blue" OBD connector sent out, but when i connect it to the car's data port and attempt to pull codes the scanner completes the scan test very quickly.. like a second..
But while its scanning i dont hear any of the tell tell signs.. that the car is being scanned such as fans turning on or "clicks" from the engine or trans.
Has anyone else had trouble actually scanning their 95 car using an auto Xray "Blue" OBD II connector ??

I just went out and tried to scan the car again. It still scans the car in like a second, but records no trouble codes. To be sure i was chasing a ghost i unplugged the MAF sensor and the check engine light came on, but my scanner still didnt capture the code.
Has anyone configured an autoXray to work with the weird 95 setup??
This is the configuration i entered into the unit:
GM > 95 > 8th Vin:P > Truck:NO > Manual Trans: NO 4th Vin:F

It won't say low battery. If new batteries don't work, and you're sure the connector port under the dash is working properly, then there is an internal problem with the scanner. What model tool do you have?
This is a fairly dumb question, but is the scanner capable of scanning that car. I own a Auto Xray unit and I know they can be purchased in mny different configurations. I once bought one off Ebay and had the same type problems. When I called Autro Xray and gave them the serial # they said the one I had was only good for all 1995 GM vehicles.
Also, normally you will not see any evidence that the car is being scanned. I used to have a different scanner that had a systems readiness test that would do things like that though.
Does your scanner have live scan to show you actual sensor ouputs while the car is running? If so is it working? You may have a PCM communications problem. You might also want to have Auto Zone or Advanced Autoparts scann it to see what they find.

Bad batts?
Oh -- I didnt know that the scanner wouldnt display a low battery state. I have had it for a good while now and have not used it very often. I will change the batteries and retest.
The model i have reads OBD I & II and i bought the GM cable for the 95 cars from AutoXray.

shoebox:
Can you post your software version? Maybe my software version gets all tripped up when it tries to scan my car. It works flawlessly on other cars. AX recommended that i try to update the system software.

i had issues wheni used the xray 2000, i think what i had to do was use the other cable , it came with 2 obdII cables, you had to use the other one to make it work.. and try selecting 94 year with the other secondary OBDII cable. I know it doesnt make sense, thats what i did.

LT4Camaro: My original kit came with a Yellow OBD II GM connector, but i then bought the Blue cable. So when you say use the secondary cable do you mean the BLUE or YELLOW cable?
I selected 94 year and used both the blue and yellow cable and was still not able to pull data from the PCM. I also checked all fuses to make sure none were blown... the cig lighter does work.
Does anyone have a close up pic of the pin arrangement for the 95 connector? Im starting to think there is a problem with my connector.

What type of connector?
Yes.. shoebox they actually recommended that after being totally stumped.
My question is what type of terminal do you put on the end of the wire that goes into the connector on the car? Its not visible in the photo

I think he used an alligator type clip.
I had one of those scanners, and it got to where it wouldn't scan certain cars. According to Auto Xray, it had an internal problem. Of course that was when Auto Xray was still Auto Xray and not part of the company that owns it now. They allowed me to trade it in on the newest model. Got the 5000 model for $200.
