Can I disable Traction control

Can I disable traction control using Tunercat so it won't work? I turned it off in the last program I put in the computer, yet I can still turn it off and on with the factory switch. Am I doing something wrong or is this not possible? By the way , it is a 96z that has been converted to obd1.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

I don't know Tunercat well. But if the ASR is zeroed out in the program, all the switch is doing is turning the indicator light on and off. Is it really "on"? IOW, have you tried to do a burnout to see if it's active or not when you have zeroed it out in the program?

Yes, I have tried to do a burnout and it activates traction control. Even though I have turned it off in the program, it still turns on and off with the button, is this normal? Or am I doing something wrong?

What re-programmer are you using? Can you program other things sucessfully?

I am using the tunercat program, and I unchecked traction control from the switches table, yet it still doesn't disable it. Any ideas? Has anyone ever disabled traction control before?

I've had mine disabled on the 94 for a long time, no issues here.

I've tried loading the program twice and still can't get it to disable, could it be that it is an OBDII car and I have an OBDI computer in it? Also, rskrause said to zero out the ASR in the program. The only table I see for this is traction control spark retard, would zeroing this table make it not work?

The traction control is handled by a different computer, I believe the ABS and traction control are the same box.
When the traction control activates (detects rear wheels spinning) it sends a signal to the PCM on pin A12. This causes the PCM to start reporting the throttle position on the ALDL line. This is how the TCM knows where the throttle position is. It then starts closing the throttle.
The TCM also put a pulse-width modulated signal on line A23 to tell the PCM to start retarding the timing. This is what the traction control retard table is used for.
Disabling the traction control in the PCM probably just ignores the signal on A23 which would be the same as zeroing the traction retard table. So basically the PCM won't pull timing when the traction control asks it to.

How do I turn the light on the dash off. I have taken everything for traction control off the car, I just want the dang light on the dash to go off.

The only thing that comes to mind is to remove the bulb. I don't know how hard it is to remove the instrument panel on an F-body but it shouldn't be too hard.
