Can I add a switch to turn Traction Control on/off?
Can I add a switch to turn Traction Control on/off?
I do not have the ASR option - no switch near the lighter. I can enable/disable the traction control with LT1 edit. Is there a kit for a switch that will allow me to turn it on and off without reprogramming the computer? The car can get pretty squirrelly with it off, but sometimes that's fun. I don't have enough tire for the engine (yet)...

I don't ahve asr either. Is it possible to get it on a car that doesnt have it. I kind of wished i did have it because i slipped into a ditch during wa rainstorm because my lack of traction.

I think all Z28's have traction control. You can order the ASR option which allows you to turn it off. I didn't, so I have to reprogram the computer to turn it on and off. I assume that ASR and traction conrol are the same thing (I could be wrong). I am asking if anybody knows which wire into the computer is the ASR control and how it works.
Re: Can I add a switch to turn Traction Control on/off?
ASR or Traction control is the same thing but not all cars are equiped with it, so if your vehicle doesn't have ASR as an option, you cannot turn it on/off. It is controlled by the ABS computer even though there is an option to toggle it off in the PCM using LT1 EDIT. If you do have it as an option, use can purchase a wiring kit to "turn it off" from SLP but they only have kits for certain year vehicles (I have not been able to find out why they make them for some model years and not others, nor can I find out what the difference is).

if you dont have the switch, you do NOT have ASR/traction control. you could i guess add it (requires an ASR box and wireing harness...) but I wouldnt waste my time/money. it does not work well.. spend the money on a car control clinic at some place like Skip Barber
