Cable connection problem
Cable connection problem
Hey, I got a cable from WOT Electronics (took forever), but now i'm ready to hook it up to my car and computer. The only problem is that the ALDL cable that connects to my computer is a female with 9 holes, and the ALDL port on my laptop is a female with 15 holes. I shopped around at radio shack and compUSA, but cannot find the right gender converter to hookup. How did you guys solve this problem, and where did you get it? Thanks

you need to get a usb cable
sorry for the bad news had the same issue with mine.
almost no newer laptops come with the serial port that you need.
go and check a nonlaptop computer or a OLD laptop and it will prollay have the correct port on it.

LOL. Damn. Thanks for the info. I've been looking everywhere for a 9 pin to 15 pin male conversion. Will the 9 pin to USB conversion work? I've heard people have trouble with them. There all over Ebay for cheap, I will pick one up if it works. Thanks
I bought an adapter on ebay and it works fine, although I have also heard that people have had problems with certain ones. I can't remember who made mine and I don't have it near me at the moment, but I can check later tonight if you want.
Like others have said, the 15 pin female on your laptop is a video output. It doesn't matter whether you can get a 15pin-9pin converter, it's still not going to work. At best, it just won't work. At worst, you might fry your laptop and/or PCM in the car.
You can easily get a USB-serial converter at nearly any computer store. I recently picked one up at Fry's for about $10.
