Better to tune with the stock MAF maxed? Or with the new LPE MAF?
Better to tune with the stock MAF maxed? Or with the new LPE MAF?
I, like most other forced induction LT1's am tuned on a maxed out MAF. I recently found that LPE has designed a MAF that combats the maxing out that the stock MAF's get. Would it be in my best interest to buy one for my tune I am having done this summer? Or am I just as well off knowing my new tune will also max out my MAF, and having it tuned like before?
Here's the link to the LPE MAF > http://www.lingenfelter.com/store/lp..._lpe-4232.html

Thank you for posting this! And thank you Lingenfelter! Finally, and aftermarket MAF with no calibration funny-business but actually supplied with correct calibration tables. Cool. Not sure if I need it yet, but it's nice to know it's out there.
As for your problem, it looks like this will at least get you to 512 gps. That might not be enough at your HP though. All their calibration tables top out there--will PCMs accept anything higher even if the MAF can do it?

The stock PCM is limited as well. Even if the MAF reads higher there's only so far the PCM will take it. However, I'm not sure if this MAF "tricks" the PCM into actually reading a higher amount than it usually does.
From my experience, when I used the larger maf on my car(slp ls1) with a fabbed intake boost increased.
Other than the decrease in restriction even with linkenfelter maf dont think its worth the trouble, as long as you have a pe tune that takes into consideration the fact car is essentially speed density tuned.
example tune the car on a ultra hot day to 12-1, than drive in very cool temp your 12-1 tune is now 13-1 tune due to denser air.
I used the maf extender on my buick gn. The old pcm's see like 256-312 grams, and with 512 extender drivability was almost the same on 400+ turbo V6. Thats why I dont think it would be worth trouble on lt1

How much of a difference in boost did you see from the stock MAF to the LS1 MAF? Are you saying that besides the LS1 MAF, you also changed the intake to the blower? If so what was the difference between what you had before and what you changed it to? If you are not saying that, and I am misunderstanding you thread, are you saying you changed the piping so the new larger MAF would fit? Details please.
