You might need a new driver for Vista. I believe AKM cables are FTDI based. Check the AKM site or ask him, if so http://www.ftdichip.com/
I have to follow a procedure for it to communicate with an LT1.
and I do not do alot of them anymore so it takes me a few tries.
have to connect it to the computer, then the ALDL and then turn the car on.

You'll likely need to connect the usb plug, let the device initialize for 10 or 15 seconds, THEN open the program that will be using the device (i.e. datamasters), then the virtual COM port will be ready.

did you install your software in compatability mode first? Then just follow the instructions on Andrew's site if you don't have the instructions that came with the disc, to load the drivers. I got mine to run every time. Datamaster or TC. just have to make sure you tell it the right com port.
Hi Guys.
Just passing through, but yes, the cables do use the FTDI Driver, you can get it from FTDI's web site at http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
I just got {my wife} a new cheapie laptop with Windows 7 on it. The driver CD did not work (Windoze didn't install the drivers properly). I had to download the drivers in the "setup executable" version from the FTDI web site in order for it to be recognized. So, be a tad bit warned that Win7 may require you to jump through new hoops.
Cheers,
Andrew
