Question A4 tranny bounces off rev limiter before shift after programming?

I just had Bryan at PCMforless reprogram my computer for the XE 224/230. Car runs great, but the tranny hits the revlimiter pretty much everytime on the 2-3 shift (WOT) and occasionally on the 1-2 shift (WOT). Did he program the tranny to shift to close the revlimiter or does this mean the tranny is going? The tranny shifts fine under normal acceleration by the way. Would programming the tranny to shift earlier aleviate this problem?

It can all be adjusted.

It's in the ECM Constants table and you have two different limits. There is a "Fuel Cutoff, 1st Gear" and a "Fuel Cutoff, 2nd - 6th gear"

Just raise those values to whatever you want the limit to be.

Maybe I misread.

Yes, you can program the tranmission to shift earlier. I was told it's the "Kickdown Mode Up/Down Shift Points" and they are set by MPH, not RPM. They just need to be set to a lower MPH.

You need to either raise the limiter, or lower the WOT shift points.

There's two parameters for the WOT point - RPM and MPH, and you need to meet both before the trans even starts to upshift. Typically, I've found that it's best to set the RPM shift point way low, and then use the MPH value to creep up on the desired shift point. If you want the 1-2 to occur at, say, 45 MPH, then start with a value more like 35 MPH and move up in 1-2 MPH increments.

Yeah...in testing this is what I have done several times. Brian at PCMforless did my initial programming too as well as for a friend of mine. Still, to get things where we wanted them without issue...it takes hands-on testing. Mail order gets you in the ballpark if you are lost (which I was...am....always) and then you go from there. My biggest issues were part-throttle (below 30%) shifting from 3-4-3 and converter lockup at low speeds (~45mph). 1/2 my drive to work is on narrow, 1.5 lane roads with no shoulder and a low speed limit. I was cycling 3-4-4 all the time as well as locking/unlocking the converter a LOT. This is specific to my driving habits and where I do my driving. Most would have never had a problem. After a few tries....it's super-close to perfect.
