a4 shift point tuning help
right now i have a stock tuned tranny with a 2400 stall and i have swapped my 3.23's for 3.42's. im running an lt4 hotcam and a set of stage 2 P&P heads with a thermal coated P&P LT1 intake and a 58mm TB with underdrive pullies CAI, LTs, basically every bolt on available. i run 275/40/17s on the street and 275/50/15s at the track. what are some good shift points to start with? and whats everyone else shifting at. I also have pcm4less's OBDI conv. on a 97 ss. i just downloaded the tunercat trial version so what values should i change and all that jazz. i want a 6000rpm rev limiter and shifts at 57-5800. i had tranny tuning before from pcmforless but it seems like thats when all my tranny shifting problems occured. so i had him set it back to stock with the exception of whatever it is he does for a 2400 stall. anyways, what are the stock 97 shift points and a4 values. and another thing last time i was sent an update with the stock tranny tune stuff it was setup for a 3.23 rear and i have the 3.42 now so i changed that but was i supposed to scale the tranny tables to cause i didnt. my problem is the 2-3 shift. i told bryan i wanted 6000revlimiter and 5800 shifts on an otherwise stock tranny tune and when i went to drive it i let off as the needle blew by6200 and finally stopped around 6500 with no 2-3 shift or revlimiter so all this tuning stuff has got me questioning things beforei pull my tranny and spend 2k on a rebuild. any help would be greatly appreciated, TIA.

Re: a4 shift point tuning help
To change the rev limiter go to fuel parameters and change the fuel cut off to your desired RPM and then resume 25 rpm below that. As far as the shift points it is in MPH go to the transmission tables go to Normal mode shift points up/down and performance mode change to your desired MPH. I am running the Hotcam also and mine is set at 6100 RPM for the 1>2 and 6000 for the 2>3

Re: a4 shift point tuning help
well i did the math and using the tranny gear ratios i found of 3.06, 1.63, 1, and .7 i got the following
rpm 5800 street tires
1-2 42
2-3 79
3-4 129
rpm 5800 race tires
1-2 43
2-3 80
3-4 130
rpm 6000 street tires
1-2 44
2-3 82
3-4 134
rpm 6000 race tires
1-2 44
2-3 83
3-4 135
now i was also reading that if you want a 6000 shift point to factor in a 3-400 buffer so if you want it to actually shift at 6000 program it at 56-5700. and do those numbers sound right to you, above. and what do i set to match those numbers, kickdown or normal mode or performance mode or what, could some one take a screen shot for me or something cause im computer programming retarded i think

Re: a4 shift point tuning help
The reason for the "buffer" is for the torque converter. And because the OBD-I cars' shift points go by vehicle speed. Those numbers would work great if you were running with the TCC locked. I believe the OBD-II cars go by RPM, which makes it a lot easier.

Re: a4 shift point tuning help
well mine was originally an obd 2 car but i did the conversion and its a locking TC so shouldnt it be locked up past 40@WOT or am i wrong and are you sure about shifting by mph, i thought it was a %tps vs rpm or am i wrong, i dont know i just started reading about this stuff a couple days ago

Re: a4 shift point tuning help
so what shift points and kickdown values in mph and rev limitier settings is everyone using. does what i have calculated look right for an a4 with 3.42s and about a 25.6-25.7" tire
