94 formula not connecting

my friend just bought a 94 formula (i believe it was made in january 94). i hooked up the laptop and checked with freescan, it connected, but when i went to read the tune with tunercat, it kept on giving me error messages. first time this has happened. my car it works fine still. i have 2 questions...

1. is there a possibility this may be a chipped pcm like the 93's?

2. if that was the case, can you put a flashable pcm like from a 94-95 in this car (or for that matter, could you put one in a 93 car and then just tune/flash it like normal)?

All 94's are the fixed-chip PCM's. His 94 is exactly the same as your 94. Only the 93 model year (not calendar year) had the removable chip.
