93 PCM help

My service engine light comes on every time i start the car after like 1 minute or so of driving....it turns on right as soon as my fans turn on...which i believe were set to turn on at a certain time so the car would run cooler, especially with 160 thermostat. I bought the car a few months ago so i dont know how or what it did....But what can i do to possibly fix the problem....overall the car runs fine...so i was going to imagine that this was the problem...I also do not have an Air Pump...it was removed by the person before me as well...so that may have something to do with it...but if anyone has some ideas to help me rid the service engine light, by possibly reprogramming the computer...please help!

Well, if you want to find what code you are throwing, all you need is a paperclip. Take the clip, bend it out to a U shape and put it in the top and bottom right-most pins of your ALDL connector under the driver's side dash. The ALDL connector is a 12 pin connector that should be right under the dash around where your right knee sits when your driving. Turn the key on (car not running) and put the paperclip into the pins. Now, your SES light should flash one flash followed by 2 quick flashes. That means you've grounded the data terminal and can retrieve codes. It should do this twice, then it should flash whatever other codes you are throwing. Count how many normal flashes and then how many quick flashes. The normal flashes are for the tens number and the quick flashes are for the ones number. For example, say it flashes 2 times normal and 5 times quick. That's code 25. If you post it here, I can tell you what the code means.

Sounds to me like it has everything to do with the air pump not being there.

Try pulling the air pump fuse under the hood-if the code is being caused by the lack of an air pump, you'll need to remove the fuse as well.

A OBDI car doesnt care if the airpump is missing, sounds like you have another problem somwhere. Try to pull some codes via the paperclip trick.

ran a OBD 1 test today

I ran the OBD 1 test today with the two paper clips, the trouble codes that flashed were 26, 32, and 42. I do not have an air pump in, so i dont know what the problem is. But those are the trouble codes that flashed. I have no idea how to get rid of my SES light being on all the time. I need major help. My car is running pretty rich as well.
Happy Holidays

26 is QDM #1 Diagnostic Error
32 is EGR Diagnostic Error
42 I have not found yet
I will continue to search and edit this post when I find it.

26- is Evaporative purge control solenoid curcuit (Is this the air pump?)
32- is EGR valve (I dont have one)
46- is the pass key circuit
Does anyone know if any of these codes will keep my engine in openloop. And since I dont have a EGR valve or air pump how do I clear the codes. And also whats up with the pass key my car starts fine. Thanks for your help.

Well, unforunately the only way to get rid of the 32 and 46 codes is to have your PCM reprogrammed to eliminate these trouble codes. Or you can have the EGR reinstalled and a new theft deterrant module installed, which is WAY more expensive. For 26 you need to replace the solenoid for the evap canister, I think. I'm not 100% sure on that one, but that sound like what you need to do. Anyone else had this problem, I've never dealt with this before.

I thought you said the last one was 42?
The 3 you mention above CAN be turned off via tunercat. I burned a chip for my buddies car that has them turned off. Pretty easy really.
Does your car even have the evap cannister anymore?

yea it was 42

yea my bad it ws 42. That was a typo. Sorry about that. Yea I was looking into this tunercat thingy, it sounds like a decent little thing. It woukd probly take some gettign used to figuring out how to create the chip but im sure it can be done. Plus its only around $100 for everything id need to do it. Some benefits are that i can make most all the settings stock on one chip and then create a high performence chipby changing the parameters on a new chip, and just change them in and out as i desire.

This is Great, i just need to look into it a little more before i buy.

Thanks,
Cory

no evap canister

no, the air pump was fully removed, however it was the person before me who did it, im guessing the canister is gone. Any way ill be able to tell for sure? I have a couple pictures of my CLEAN engine i took with a dig. camera yesterday. I cleaned my engine up yesterday with some of that D-Gunk stuff and then i took a towel with some spray and cleaned things up real good. Let me know if you want to see them. I will e-mail upon ur request.

Thanks Again

my chip

ok looks like it is gonna be way to expensive to buy all the software/hardware to customize my own chip, to fix my 3 trouble codes in my 93 Z. It now looks like i am going to just pay for the chip to be made by someone. Hence saving money for me, and still gettign what i needed. Anyone got a good place to recommend a chip being made for a 93 Z. Im mostly keeping it all stock, i just need to change 3 parameters, on the chip which are the air pump, the EGR , and the pass key ( electrical ). I no longer have the air pump or EGR hooked up in my car, and the pass key thingy has mind boggled me forever. So any recommendations would be great!
Thanks

Happy Holidays!!!

I would suggest PCMforless. I think it's $75 for a chip.
If you bought the adapter that plugs into where your stock memcal goes, I could do the chip for you no problem.
Not sure if the PCMforless chip comes with one either.
