93 LT1 What are my Tuning Options?

I need to get a list of everything I need to tune my LT1. What is the best software to use Datamaster, Tunercat, or something else. I know I need to get the OBDI cable from AKMcables. Already have a laptop. Where can I get a chip burner, eraser and chips.

Also as far as the software is concerned which one gives me the greatest abilty to tune and modify settings. Also which is easiest to use. I am new to this but Alvin at pcmforless told me to run a data log and he would get me a good chip made. I like this idea but have always wanted to tune it myself.

Tunercat and a chip burner is what you'd need, you can use Freescan for data logging. Andrew might have info on his site about chip burning equipment, or just search the forums. I find that Google is also very good about finding things, with the right search parameters.

'93 LT1 Vette?

I'm curious about scanning software for my '93 Corvette. On the Freescan site the software for the '94 Camaro and '94 Corvette appear to the the same. Does anyone know if the freescan for the '93 Camaro will work for a '93 Vette? Although it doesn't list '93 Vette I'm hoping it would work for it as well.

thanks,
md

Good chance (I think) it would work, if you have a cable then try it. If not, then send Andrew Mattei an email, he will know for sure, since he wrote parts of Freescan.

An alternative to a uv eraser is to buy flash proms. I've used Amtel 29C256 with good luck.
IMHO doing a 93 is a little easier than a 94-95. VEMaster does a great job of cleaning up your part throttle stuff since you don't have to play with MAF tables.
If you choose to do the tuning yourself and have any questions let me know.

I use the pocket programmer from Intronics to burn my chips. Tunercat works nice for the software! I use 27c256 memcal chips.
Corvettes use the 29c256.

You sure about that?
Might be true, but as far as I know the 29C256 is just the flashable version of the 27C256. Eliminates the need for a UV eraser.

FWIW I never could get Freescan to work on my 93. TTS Datamaster is far superior anways. If you're on a budget (or just cheap) I heard Craig Moates' software will work as well and its free.

Do we need some kind of adapter for the chip to the ECM? I am new at this, and I just got the pocket programmer with Amtel 29c256 reflashable chips. But where to these go, given that the ECM chip is way longer? Is there an adapter? Where do I get it?

Thanks

You are correct. The Amtel 29C256 is nothing more than a reflashable chip, as opposed to the 27C256, which you need a UV eraser for.

I just looked at the VEMaster thing, and am probably going to give it a shot. I am wondering though, how does it go about fixing the part throttle stuff just from the datalog?? Does it just make a .bin file with the part throttle stuff, and then you have to go in and do the WOT yourself again, or how do you go about it??

Would the adapter that MadZ28 sells work for this? It is $10 there as opposed to $35...

Thanks
