3rd gen OBD-I

Hey guys, im a little new to fuel injections. I plan on installing the holley stealth ram intake with 24 or 26lb injectors. The guy who built the motor did a good job except he didnt really finish the job. The cam is too big for the intake and it just falls on its face around 4K. I figure with this new intake and injectors it should smooth everything out. He used a 5.7 chip, its a ZZ4 motor so the cam is WAY different than stock, the heads flow better and like i said the intake was stock he said he kept the stock 305 fuel injectors in there and just bumped up the fuel pressure. The plugs actually look REALLY good ... im confused as to how he tuned this thing.. it idles like crap. Anyhow, if i swap the injectors and intake I would like to either be able to read all the stuff from the computer or try reprogramming the chip thats in there. I know enough about motors and stuff like that but its all the computer mumbojumbo that i need some help on. What program do you guys recommend I use? And i saw in another post that someone recommended AKMElectronics for the connector? I have a high end laptop so i dont need a portable hand held. Any help is MUCH appreciated!
Thanks for being patient with me.
