just bought this car and last night the engine light came on....

is running fine, but i need some help on where to start... money is tight this way, so looking for some knowledge here

 

First step is always "get it scanned". There are so many codes that turn on the SES light that its a huge waste of time to just guess.

Many auto parts stores will scan it for free. Just make sure to write down the EXACT codes, because the auto parts store use generic lists that aren't as good as the specific list for the year/engine of your car.

An OBD-II code reader costs less than $50.

 

wow thats messed up. the jerk prob cleared the code so you dint see it and it just came back on. i used to clear codes on my old firebird and they would come back on after some driving around... yeah but do what the other guy said and have it scaned

 

Where are you from guy? Maybe somebody with a scanner can help you out?

I wouldn't worry about it. "major" never came back to the site after he posted the question above, 6 weeks ago. At this point we're just wasting our time.
