I got LT-1 Edit a few years ago for 550.00 as Tunercat OBDII just came out recently.
Tunercat is much cheaper at 389.00 but some people have reported
losing their PCMs, sometimes 2 in a row using it.
I haven't seen any posts about losing pcms with LT-1 Edit.
I don't have any experience with the new OBDII Tunercat but I'd wait until someone actually using the new software offers an opinion.

Ok here is a post about losing a pcm with lt1_edit, whats worse is once you get a new one lt1_edit is usless as it's coded on vin.

Tunnercat if it fries your pcm atleast you can reflash a new one; with lt1_edit you "need" to goto a dealer to reflash and re-vin, then depending on how the dealer flashes get carputing you change your license.

If you car is modified it won't even run ie mine.. so unless your dealer has a bench cable your fully hosed as they need the car.

You end up with a car in the garage unable to run that needs to get to a dealer, and even after the dealer flashes it the car won't run.. so it's towed back home and you wait for lt1 to re license your copy and try again.

My work around was using tunercat to flash my old lt1_edit tune and i was fine.. but why bother with lt1_edit now.

Plus with a 97' your dealing with scrambled files anyway I think.

Sorry venting today, but tc got me back without alot of hassle.

Yes LT-1 Edit is locked to a particular pcm through the interface module.
Even if you have a pcm revinned it won't work unless carputing redoes the module.
I have a spare pcm with the same program which would get me by if I was to fry the one thats locked to edit.

I sourced a program that changes vin's.. so in theory you can pull your new tune change the vin to your old licensed vin then reflash.

Of course you can't use pcmprog to do this, but you can get back into your lt1 edit license without dealing with them.

Re: 1997 LT1 Camaro LT1edit or Tunercat

I have been using TCs OBD2 LT1 stuff for some time. I haven't lost one PCM yet. Not sure what the others are doing that would cause this problem. If there are any problems you can contact TC directly. His customer service is AAA bar none! He answers emails within hours, try that with the Carputing bunch. In worse case scenarios he would even call you. There were some earlier issues with TCs OBD2 tuner with the Vortec truck stuff and something with the firmware with the convertor that has the scan tool capability. But I beleive that those problems has all been resolved.

Where did you find this program? How can I get it? Ive got LT1 edit but cant use it b/c I had to get a new PCM

To the Original Poster:
Just convert to OBD1. Its easy to do and tuning for it is so much cheaper.

I was also considering the switch, but what about smog, will there computer pickup the vin stored in the new ECU, causing me not to pass.

I just put in my OBD2 and run a stock tune on smog day. Just passed 3 days ago.
