1995 3.8L V6 pcm tuning?

I just completed a full manual swap on my 95 3.8, and I love it to death. Unfortunately, it now comes down to figuring out how I can tune the pcm so that the speedo works properly and the car stops throwing codes for the transmission that isn't there anymore. I've seen people post about LT1_Edit and 9495 scanner but those appear to be for the OBD1 only, and I have OBD2. I don't think I can order a vin-specific new pcm because the car was originally an automatic. Any ideas?

If the only change from stock was to install a T5 in place of the 4L60E, and assuming you have correctly rewired everything, all you need to do is replace the stock 4L60E tune in the PCM with a stock T5 based program. A GM dealer should be able to do this. I'm not aware of mail-order tuners who do that for the V6, but there must be a few somewhere. Not a lot of active members left here any more, and most of them are LT1 fans.

Scan9495 is a scanning and data logging software specifically for the OBD-1 1993-1995 LT1 PCM. It isn’t a programmer. Similarly lt1_edit is tuning software for the 1994/95 LT1. Wouldn’t be compatible with the OBD-2 V6. They did come out with an OBD-2 version for the LT1. Also not compatible with the V6 I suspect. But I don’t think it’s available from the originator, hasn’t been for many years..

If you don't get any input from a knowledgeable V6 owner here, I suspect that a site that specializes in the 3.8L V6 might produce better results. I just don’t know much about the engine.

I found this site… have no idea if it is legit.

Many thanks. Would I be able to plug and play with a new t5 pcm from the 96 3.8 model? Haven't had much luck with dealers helping me out with this car, even before I did the swap.

No idea whether there are differences between 1995 and 1996 tunes. I suspect, given the very late in 1995 model year introduction of the 3.8L that they would be the same. But can’t state w/ certainty. You would have to take into consideration that there are probably also tune differences within the year for CA cars vs. 49-state cars.

Try a dealer…. all they would need to know is how to use their Tech-2 tool. Probably be pricey though. Can’t hurt to ask.

I assume you found that pcm on eBay. No idea... but maybe keep checking for a 95 3.8 pcm, they do not command a high price.
