It will last for a while if you are somewhat easy on the car.It will not like slicks , stick with street tires. You are better off spending the money an upgrading to a GM 12 bolt or a Ford 9 inch. Both of which you can get a http://www.moserengineering.com/ .

What would i need to cut or move to swap a 12 bolt with a 10 bolt? how much would it cost for a 12 bolt with 3.73's and a good posi.

If you look at moser site you see they are not cheap. To remove the rear you have to remove the U-bolt's around the axle there should be two one each side and there are two t-bolts the nuts have to come off of those are also in the same place as u bolts. You also have to remove or disconnect the e-brake cables and disconect the rubber brake hose on the axle housing.Just make sure when you do this that car in sercure on a GOOD set of jack stands

an early 70's to ~75 nova 10 bolt 8.5" rear end will fit into your car with little effort. Plus it'll hold up to a 454, unless you have a 4 speed with slicks on the car, it'll be OK. These are cheap and plentiful if you know where to look.

FWIW: I broke an 8.2 rear end in my 70 RS with a mild 350 and automatic trans. One night I hit the throttle and heard the engine scream, heard a loud BANG under my car along with the sound of something smashing the hell out of my mufflers and I wasn't going anywhere. (I ripped the driveshaft out of the car). This will happen to you sooner rather than later if you keep your current rear end. However you don't need to spend a fortune to remedy the problem.
