Question Tight engine fit for the LT1 in the 69'

I finally got around to dropping the 94' Camaro engine into my 69' Camaro. After shoe-horning it into the car it looks like it might be a tight fit against the fire wall. The original throttle arm on the fire wall is really close to my engine. Is this a normal thing or have I done something wrong. I used regular "early model" small block engine mounts. This was what I was told to use. It just seems like I got a hell of a lot of room up front of the engine for me to be craming it back so far. I pulled the old (not original)350ci out earlier, it had an H.E.I. distributer on it. The H.E.I. was also really close to the fire wall. Is there any chance that the original brackets that my engine mount are attaching to, are too far back on the frame. They look original and untampered with. I really don't know what the original engine was in this car. I could be just getting excited over nothing if this a normal amount of space for this engine/car combo. If anybody could give me some insight on this issue, it would be greatly appreciated. I can also give more information on my components if needed. Thanks.

The distance from the motor mount pads on the engine to the bellhousing flange is identical on the LT1 as the earlier small blocks that would have come in your car. So it sits exactly the same, depending on the frame mounts you used.

The motor sits pretty close to the firewall in the 1st gens. If you have an HEI the firewall normally has to be "clearanced" with a BFH. You will have to convert to a different pedal to run the cable on the LT1 anyways. (Unless you are running the carb intake on it.)
The arm for the throttle linkage will normally almost touch the back of the intake when the throttle is closed.
Sounds like yours is about average!

LT1 in 69

Here is a link to a whole bunch of pics of a 94 LT1 going into my 69 drop top. It fit just fine. We used standard SBC motor mounts.

Sweet setup.. im doing roughly the same thing with my deuce.. what did you use for an external fuel pump/sump setup? got any numbers? Was told the EP185 would be enought to support the LT1 and have been warned to not go with the aeromotive 1000.. any input would be appreciated.. havent decided if I'm going to yank the stocker fuel lines and make it work or have some made or just run the rubber.. thanks!

Thanks for the insight, guys. I feel better than last night. I thought I was doing something wrong. I'm sure I'll have more questions later. As far as my fuel system goes, I'm considering Rock Valley's fuel Tank with the pump in it. Its pretty damn expensive so I'm still debating.

Thanks again!

The external sump tank is pretty trick and is a custom unit built by Paul Casalas at Speed Merchant in San Jose. 408-295-0930. It is fed by a low pressure in-tank pump. That is about all I know about it. I am not a very technical guy but I can tell you that I have suffered no fuel starvation issues under very hard driving with low fuel levels. If you are really interested give Paul a call.

cheers

I seriously want to do this myself... except with a '67 vert and using the RamJet 502.

car for sale.......not

I need to get them to take that ad down. I have pulled it off the market at least for a while. It was just photo'ed for a mag and I want to hold on to it for a while longer unless someone comes along with a trunk full of money.

My A1000 pump keeps up with twin turbos on my LT1 just fine, wonder who/why you were warned?

I changed out all the lines on mine, but initially after installing the LT1 I just modified the stock lines on the intake to adapt to AN fittings. Worked fine.

I have a fuel cell, with 1/2" alum. feed, and 3/8" alum return lines. At 12 psi of boost the fuel pressure is 55 psi, so it is keeping up fine so far.
