t56 into 1970-81 camaro
Re: t56 into 1970-81 camaro
Unless you purchase an aftermarket T-56 that has been modified to withstand the kind of power you are talking about I feel you would be wasting your time. I've driven many 6-speed Camaros and Firebirds that are showing signs of weakness behind stock or modified lt1's and LS-1s. I think It would be a lot of work for no gain performance wise. If you were in the 300 to 400 horsepower range you would probably be okay.
Re: t56 into 1970-81 camaro
I think you would be alright depending on your driving habits. There quite a few 6 speed cars running 10s on stock T-56's and couple in the 9's. It would be well worth your time and a great fun factor. Plus there are many upgrade's for the T-56 that can with stand abuse with that kind of power.

There are hardened input and output shafts available, as well as "Viper" internals (taken from the T-56 used in - you guessed it - the Viper
). Probably if you searched the Driveline forum, you might find more info on where those parts would be available
.
I definitely think a 6-speed in a classic car would be cool
. I'd love to have one in our '73
.
