T-5 in 72 Camaro?
Has anyone here swapped a t-5 for the muncie or t10 in their 70-73 camaro? I can't remember seeing this in any magazines, and I'm concerned about the crossmember, linkage, and shifter location. It would be hooked up to a (roughly) 350hp 350.
If its the t-5 thats in the 80's camaros, I was under the impression that they weren't very strong. Thats mainly why they never made it an option to get one with the 350. On the 3rd gen camaros you could only get the 5 speed with the 305's.

I'm going to use a rebuilt 88-92 w/c unit, possibly converting to a 2.95 super alloy gearset (if it is compatible). Should come in at about $700 ready to go. Using street radials, the T-5 will get it done; since this is obviously a budget job, I'm just worried that the crossmember/linkage setup will make it not worth the trouble (and money). So, has anyone seen it done?

First off, I'm going to echo the anti-T5 sentimente... these trannys are not strong enough to handle a stock 305. They can be built, but it isn't cheap, you will need to have the internal stops modified for strength as well.
After all is said and done, you could probably just buy a Richmond 5 speed and run 3.08 gears.
The linkage is differnt than a M21 ect... You will probably need to buy a shifter for an 84-91 Camaro (B&M and Hurst make em) and modify the stick for location.
I'm pretty sure the crossmember has to move, but I can't recall in which direction.

Couple problems with the T5 swap. Has an angled front mounting arrangement, bolts up at a 17 degree angle. Trick is to find a bellhousing with this setup and a rod clutch linkage, only year for this was an 83 Camaro. Hard to find, or get an aftermarket steel housing. T5 is a couple inches longer, shorten driveshaft and move crossmember back and redrill frame. Shifter will work but not so good with a console.
