Suspension Questions

My car is too low - I am scraping everywhere. What will raise my ride height a little and get my exhaust off the ground? Mainly the front but the rear should be raised as my tires do rub a little.

Where and what?

This is on the 68 correct? What size tires and wheels are on there right now? Also have the springs, or shocks been replaced recently? Is the rear mono-leaf or multi-leaf?

Fronts are 195/60/15 and rears are 255/60/15 monoleaf and the springs look too low for stock and the shocks struts are Gabriels.

And - yes - it is a 68.

I ran two different sizes on my 68... 225/60/14 front and 245/60/14 rear. It had mono-leafs and they rubbed a little in back. When I switched tires I went to 235's front and back so I could rotate them. The rubbing also went away for the most part. (I think I was running KYB's back then.) I later added fiberglass rear mono-leafs.

My 67 I believe has 215/60/15 front and 245/60/15 rear. It rubs as well. IMO 255's a just too damn wide in back if you're running the stock back spacing. (I also have new springs front & rear, so I'm going to try replacing the shocks.)

You can try getting longer spring shackles for the back, but I personally think they're not great looking and hurt the handling. The best bet will be to go with narrower tires if the springs and shocks are in good shape.

On my 67 Chevelle I ran 245/60/14 on all four corners. The front was slammed 2-inches and it rubbed in back. However too a rubber mallet to the inside wheelwells, and curled up (i.e. pounded up) the inside lip on the rear wheel openings and it seemed to fix the problem.

The rear isnt so much a problem as the front - The exhaust rubs in driveways at the "H". The car looks almost slammed but it looks good. Maybe go with stock springs?

It probably is lowered then. Stock V8 springs should fix the problem.

Are these springs on your car stock springs? I dont mind the height you are running, I just dont want to end up looking like a 4x4 but I have to do something as I am bottoming out.

I was about to order some stock springs but in browsing reader rides and seeing some cars with lowering springs, they seemed much higher than mine. Maybe tire size has to do with it.

I'm pretty sure mine are the stock ride height. The rear is a little high for my tastes, but I'd rather not have the 15's rub.

My front suspension right now is missing the anti-sway bar. The previous owner neglected to install it before selling and I've just been too busy to crawl underneath and bolt it up. (I also need to replace my u-joints, so maybe laziness is the real culprit.)

BTW, all the parts for my suspension came from http://www.p-s-t.com

Alright, I actually crawled under and looked today.

I have 225/60/15 fronts, and 235/60/15 rears... and I definitely have the PST multi-leaf conversion.

Did you put the multi leaf in yourself?

No, it came like that. The previous owner rebuilt the front and rear suspensions and did a front disc brake conversion.

I just need to bolt up the front sway bar, which for some reason he left off. Then maybe swap the stock shocks for some KYB's or Edelbrock's. I might even add a rear sway bar.

Its my weekend project but I've been busy on my kid's cars, so its kind of sat for a few months.

I need to get a new carb and some headers, but I'm trying to stretch out my investment for a few months.

I know what you mean. This could get costly if I go nuts.

PST takes too long - I can get TRW made stuff from classicindustries plus use my buddy's wholesale account. Plus he has a lift.

I did manage to fix both windows and door locks without spending a dime. They work perfectly now.

After the suspension, I am going to look at carbs and intake then a new stall converter.
