A stupid question for my 10,000th post on cz28!!! What is being referred to as "long" or "short" wrt both SBC and BBC water pumps?

Thanks.

The length of the impeller shaft. Most sbc's before 1969 used the short version.

I thought the corvette got the shorter one......the sides where the 2 bolts are is short its smaller than the other one. And the long one has kind of a snout to it where the pulley is, the short one is really close

That makes more sense than the impeller, but I don't know - that's why I am asking???

Why are you asking? b/c I know the brackets for alt. and the crank pulley and stuff are harder to find but depending on what your doing it may not matter.

oh...well the pulley is different too just so you know, I ran into this before and could never get the right stuff so I just got a different water pump to get it all lined up right.
