My father was an orginal owner of a 68 Camaro, but it was stolen about 12 - 15 years. Once it was stolen, my father was never the same again - towards anything - especially cars. I remember him pulling out old photos and remember driving around in it, when he was in the army, dating my mother, or putting me behind the wheel as an infant. He would tell storys how he thought he saw his car, and would run after it - but then find that it wasn't really his - a true car lover, knows the ins and outs of his car!!
His love and passion for his car, was the driving force for me to restore a 68, back to the way that he originally had it, i.e. color, interior - appearance, etc. minus modern day available upgrades (to make it ride and drive better). My question for the group is - is there any way to search for the car based on his VIN number? Are there any databases with this kind of information? I know that the car must still exist - because the body was in perfect shape.
Any help would be great.

have you tried carfax? Perhaps there is a recent record of activity with the VIN, assuming it is still being used somewhere.
Find out a recent sale or something and start your detective work there....

I thought that Carfax did not keep records that go back that far?

Carfax doesnt go past 81 i beleive, I would go down to the license bearu and ask if they can run a vin # for you, just tell them you want to run it so see if its ever been in an accident
If they wont do it I would call the police, just explain your situation and im sure they wouldnt mind..... Hope this helps...

You may want to hire a PI to do a search for any evidence that it's still around. There are a lot of databases but not everyone can access them. Also, go to CRG(www.camaros.org) and ask if they have that VIN registered on their site.

What was the VIN and I can see what info I can get back on it.

I don't like to be the negative one here, but if it was that long ago you're not very likely to find it now. If it wasn't chopped it's probably either in europe or had the vin changed and then resold. I'm just trying to be realistic; but I hope for you and your dad's sake that I'm wrong.

Someone stole our SUV (Toyota Lancrusier) and after 8 years the Police found it in Colombia. (We used to live in Venezuela)
Don't lose hope, My dad actually brought it back from Colombia in a truck, and restored it.
