Ss Proof?

CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF ALL 69 SS OPTIONED CARS HAD FRONT DISC BRAKES? MY RESEARCH IS LEAVING A QUESTION MARK. SOME BOOKS SAY FRONT DISCS WERE INCLUDED IN SS OPTION CARS AND OTHERS ARE A LITTLE VAGUE.

ALSO, IS THERE ANY WAY TO TELL IF A 69 IS ATRUE SS WITHOUT THE LATE MODEL TRIM CODE OR PROTECT-A-PLATE?

ANY HELP IS APRRECIATED! THANKS!!

From: I been everywhere, man
I thought all 69 SS's had X11 on the cowl tag, but I may be wrong. Check out www.camaros.org
They may be able to help.

All '69 Camaro's had disc brakes. They all had 12 bolt rear and multileaf rear springs. The base engine in an SS was the 350.

You asked about SS's and my response was to that. I repeat, ALL SS cars had disc brakes, twelve bolt rears and multi leaf springs. There are no exceptions to that. I see many SS clones that are not equipped. They are clones.
There were something like 5 codes for the SS cars. The codes are quite easily found on the net. There was one for the base engine SS without the trim package and another with the trim package. Trim package was included with RS option. Then there was the same variation available with the Big Block cars. The Pace car was also an SS with a separate code. i am not sure if the Pace car replica had a separate code for BB.

THANKS ROADBLOCK.... IN YOUR POST IT READ..." ALL 69 CAMAROS HAD DISC BRAKES". I DID NOT REALIZE YOU WERE REFERRING TO SS CARS ONLY. DID NOT MEAN OFFEND ANYONE.
I HAVE READ THAT SOME SS CARS (69) DID HAVE 10 BOLTS ALTHOUGH THE DOCUMENTATION SHOWS ALL WERE 12'S.

I GUESS THERE IS NO WAY OF CHECKING EXT TRIM CODES
PRIOR TO THE MID 69'S.
THANKS!!!

I've also read that some SS350's with Powerglides had 10 bolts, but I've never seen one that had proof it was an actual SS and not a clone.

My eyes hurt from reading too much caps lock..

A friend of mine up in Idaho has a '69 SS, that he's had for 32 years, and is the original owner of. It's a sweet *** car

I don't remember all of what he said it had originally, but I think he's changed the rear on it. He HAS put 4-wheel disc brakes on it, while most everything else is original. I'll find out if there's any special vin# or rear end that it used to have.

I have found the answer. If any one else cares.... All 69 ss cars had front discs. every BB car (ss) had either muncie 4spd or turbo 400 a/t. BB also had holes in the center of the heater box and motor offset about an inch to pass. side.

Thanks for the help guys....

OK, like you said, all 69 Camaro SS cars had power disc brakes, dual exhaust, 12 bolt rear, multileaf springs(there are a few exceptions with some original SS350 cars with the PG getting the 10 bolt). You can also look for 2 fuel lines, 1 is a return line and was only used with the Rochester Qjet carb on the SS350/300hp engine, 396/325hp, 396/350hp engine but it could also be the LM1 which was a 350/255hp engine which is not an SS. The hood springs have more coils to lift the extra weight of the SS hood. If it's a Dec 68 or later car then look for the X55(SS350), X22(SS396), X66(SS396) or X11 which could be an SS350, but does not mean it is for sure.

My 69 SS/RS had front disk brakes and a 12 bolt rear.

FWIW, the design/function of that car really sucked.
