Smog laws in CA for a 75?

Can anyone fill me in on smog laws in California for a 1975 car?

Is there an actual sniffer test? I seem to recall that the CAT was around back then. Does anyone know if and when this will change? I remember they opted out of the 25 year rollover

Right now it's 73-older so you would have to be tested.

I knew they had some kind of test, but didn't know if it was sniffer or just checking for parts, so I take it the CAT was around in 74 or 75 then, ok.

As for the 30 year roll over, I think that is not law yet, and they are still debating it, I think I even heard that it was up for decision this spring but could be wrong.

Most areas do the dyno run with the sniffer, plus a visual confirmation of the correct parts. A few rural areas have just the sniffer and visual, but no dyno.

Thankfully I live in a non-dyno area, there are a few counties that still dont need smog other than change of ownership.

Another CA smog question

What if it's pre-73, but a new(LS-1) motor? Think they'll hassle me?

73 and previous, you can either bother to recertify it as a car with a new engine and THEN you'll have to smog it, or just dont ever say a thing
