Small Block Shootout

Did you guys see the show they were having on Thanksgiving Day? The small black shootout? The Z-28 Camaro beat the 302 Boss Mustang, Javelin, and Dodge Challenger. They did 5 competitions. Brake Test, 0 to 60mph, 1/4 miles, Track, and Slalom. I believe the Z-28 won the Slalom, Track, and lost by 1 foot in the brake test. Z-28 won overall in the points system they gathered from the 5 tests, Boss 302 Mustang 2nd place. I was impressed, but yet not suprised!

Thoughts Below....

Yeah, I was watching that. It would be interesting if they did it again after tuning, adjusting and fixing the cars a little. It seemed like each one had something that wasn't quite acting right. But you can't really expect cars to be ready to go through that kind of shootout without some prep to make sure everything is up to snuff. It was interesting.

Not too bad of a show. Is that the one where they all had equal tires? I later seen the American Muscle Shootout, where most cars had 427+ engines and original tires. Also cool and a Boss 429 won that over an LS6 Chevelle ONLY because it won a burnout category at the end...LAME

i saw that, it gave me the impression that the guy driving was kinda a ford man, seems he always drove the mustang a little better then the other cars. but maybe that means the mustang was eisier to drive?

i would like to see the same test with tires that would get some traction, and a set of shocks that will keep the car from sloshing around like a waterbed. can you imagine the 60' the buick would have with that 5xx lbs of torque if he had a pair of slicks.

Re: Small Block Shootout

it was a cool show. I really like watching them rip around the road course. that guy is a pretty good driver, so it's much better than watching car and driver editors try and tear it up. The cars were all nicely compared with many tests, although we'd all love to see the 1/4 times. some of the cars were modified, but with the age of the cars it's awfully hard to go putting stock parts, especially suspension, on a 35 year old car. pretty cool
