Serpentine for 1st Gen?

What cars can I rob a serpentine belt setup from and have it fit in my first gen? Also, do late model OEM water pumps flow enough water for a high performance engine?

racr,
follow this link,

this is basically a serpentine setup off an 88-92 z28. 87 and newer chevy cars and trucks had several different serpentine setups that will work, from the 4.3l s-10, astro van, full size trucks and caprice. if you are running a fuel injected/tpi system the only one that will work is off the z28, the belt tensioner on the others will be in the way of the air intake and throttle body.

There is a set-up on ebay that ends today. It was on a small block chevrolet engine in a 69 camaro.

What are the benefits of going serpentine vs. traditional belt system besides appearance? I always though it would be a better idea to have separate belts, that way if you blow an alternator belt, you still at least have a water pump to get you home without overheating. Am I missing the bus somewhere?

A serpentine belt reduces maintenance. They have a constant tension on them so you don't have to keep re-tightening the belts due to them stretching. If properly aligned the only reason a belt would break is if it is cracked and glazed. I haven't seen a broken belt in a long time.

Does anyone make a serpentine setup for a big block?? Would one off of a newer big block work?
