I am currently in the middle of installing a LT! drivetrain into a '57 Chevy.

Does anyony know, or know where, to find directions on how to rewire the FACTORY LT1 harness to install into a old vehicle.

Why make it hard on yourself? Painless wire have kits that are easy to install and delete what you dont need.

ouch they want 450 to redo your old harness or 650(SD)/750(maf) for a new one, the painless wiring cant be this expensive can it?

and for that much it may be worth the hassle trying to figure our how to reuse a stocker.

That place has an article on page 90 something where they put a LT1 into a 67 convertible camaro. They sell a wiring kit but not sure how much it costs, couldn't find a price.

Pretty hard to do. All the wiring is in one harness pretty much. Lights, heater and so forth. Have all the gauge and control wiring tied in with it too. Real hard to make a simple harness from the factory stuff. I had mine laid out on table in the basement for a month or so with the factory wiring diagram trying to make up a simple harness and pretty much gave up. I got all the wires figured out and probably could make it work, but would have had a mess if I had to find a problem later. Probably worth the money to get the three wire harness from some company and eliminate the pass key hassle too.

 

for me im using the 4l60e tranny as well, so im gonna use a stocker harness, i think you can eliminate the passkey.

ill just shove the rest of the harness behind the dash that im not using

 

Its actually pretty simple. The big square through the fire wall connector comes apart and the wires are held together with wax. there are very few wires that don't go to the PCM. most of the through the wall wires are for the dash. Set the loom on the engine and start connecting it. Verify the ones not needed and remove them. Everything has its own unique connector. I used All Data. For 20 bucks/yr you can get all of info and drawing from the donar car. The wiring diagram and the ECM connections are the main ones to work off. I did mine a few years ago and jagsthatrun was pretty much wothless for the LT1.. They did have some good mechanical speedo drives for the 4l60e and they had some decent intake tubing. I probably had 20-30 hours in my loom but I also dressed it up.
