removing transmission

how hard is it to switch transmissions in a 1969 camaro? can you take the trans right out or do you have to lift the engine too?

Re: removing transmission

From my experience the trans just comes right out. I had a super t-10 bolted to a lakewood bellhousing and i just undid 4 bolts on the trans and it came away from the bellhousing. However it was a little harder to get the bellhousing out. Has to undo the motor mounts and put the engine on a hoist and move it forward a little because it was so big. If its a stock bellhousing i'd think it would just come right about without having to move the engine at all.

Re: removing transmission

Manual or auto?

Auto's will come out with no problem... just invest in a good jack and a friend to help guide it in and out.

Re: removing transmission

to romove a tranny is nothing, just impact out the bolts and bolt the tranny to the motor, and the tranny mount and it should drop out with a little help...

Re: removing transmission

It just depends on if your exhaust will get in the way.............we just swapped the transmission in my Dad's '73, and it was a b!tch to get the TH350 squeezed between the headers (we basically had to lift one side up, slide it over top of that pipe, then lift the other side of the tranny up and in place..................not real difficult, just tedious).
