Rear subframe rusted to pieces (78 camaro)

I picked up a 78" Camaro a few months ago - 305 2bbl. I was planning to restore it with my grandfather before his health went downhill. I rushed into buying it for various dumbass reasons. The area where the rear leaf springs connect to the frame is so rusted that the spring shop said they couldn't replace them. I wasn't aware of this problem when I purchased the car.

I did a search, it doesn't seem like this is a very common issue. My question is how expensive and difficult is this to repair?

Don't worry man you are not alone on this one mine is the same way. I think some places sell rear frame rails or you can go to a junk yard and cut the section that you need from a donor car and then from there you have to do some cutting and welding.

That's isn't all that uncommon. Especially if you live in a rusty part of the country.Year one sells replacement frame rails. Don't sweat it too much.

" Measures 48" from the rear of the frame rail to the curvature at the top of the rail. The rear shackle sleeve is welded in place and the threaded axle snubber plate is welded on the inside of the frame. NOTE: Includes welded-in reinforcements in the arch over the axle near the sway bar mount (this area is structurally enhanced for cars with sway bars, especially important because sway bars were increasingly used on 1974-1981 models).

Due to the size of these products, they are shipped oversize. "

This is for a pair of rear rails.
