Radiators?

I need to replace the radiator in my '67 and I was wondering what kind of car I could gut a radiator out of. I got quoted $500 for a Griffon drop in radiator, but I'd rather just gut one at the junkyard. Will an old Monte Carlo radiator or something fit?

I dont know what other cars will fit, but you can get a new one for about 175 from NPD.

Don't go the junkyard route. A lot of times they need to be rodded out and you can't always tell by looking. If originality isn't a concern, radiators are cheap at places like autozone. I got a 3 row for a little over $100 for my 71. They didn't list one for a 71, but they did have one for a 75. Only difference was the size of the fittings for the tranny cooler lines.

Since the 68-74 Nova has the same underpinnings as a 1st gen Camaro, that would be your best bet for an interchange.

If any radiator will do, you might try the rad from a 3rd gen. They're aluminum and a perfect swap into a second gen, so they may go into a 1st gen without too much trouble.

nope, unfortunately, first gens bolt to the radiator support, they dont drop in and get held by the shroud like the 2nd gens.

ive got the same problem on my 67, it leaks and has rust and all kinds of good crap.

I want something that will keep it fairly cool but also look cool without spending millions of dollars on a radiator.

So I can just go on over to AutoZone or something and pick up any given radiator for about $150? I'm there! Anybody have an actual reference model for one that'll bolt into my '67? Maybe I'll go pick one up today since I have the day off.

I checked the Autozone website, and the part number for a 68-69 3 core is 433337 and its 168.99

the 67 shows 433370 and is 188.99

you might have to special order it though, I doubt they stock it. (My store doesnt)

I belive the difference is the fact that this is for the heavy duty cooling system, which shows different part numbers through NPD for 67. However, the standard cooling, big block applications, and all aftermarket stuff, shows the same part for all years, and the radiator core support is also the same, so Id be willing to bet you can use the 68 version even on a 67. but you might want to make sure you can return it if it doesnt bolt up if you go that route

Hope that helps

You can get some really good aluminum radiators from summit that are not direct fit and require some bracketry *really simple. You can get them anywhere from 150 all the way to like 300 depending on the brand and size

I'm lucky and I live right by the main warehouse for my area. I got myself one of those "Heavy Duty" radiators for about $190. I haven't tested it yet though because I figured that while I have the radiator our, I might as well put a hot cam in that 350 I'm running. Today after work I'm going to re-drop the distributor since I missed a few degrees (and shot fire out of the carb), and I'll let you guys know how the radiator works.

I asked the Summit guy about those radiators and he said they're not street radiators and not designed to cool the engine at idle. They're some kinda high flow circle track deals.
