questions on 81 z28

a friend of mine just bought an 81 z. it came witha 350, auto. what tranny would be in it? rear gears? we plan on restoring it. its a nice car but does need quite a bit of rust work. the car is solid though. runs nicely. has a major oil leak. where would that most likely be coming from? besides that it runs great. shifts right on the money. any kind of info on this car would be great. thanks.

Tranny is the TH-350 if its original. Can't remember of the rear, but I think its a 10-bolt.

i know its a 10 bolt. looks like a pretty hefty one too. but i was wondering if anyone knew what gears the z was offered with that year. the TH-350 has no overdrive, am i right?

No overdrive. I think its a 3.73 Posi rear. (I'll check.)

Check on www.nastyz28.com to see the complete specs, but i think that car will have 3.42 posi gears.

I have 2 81 Z's and they both came with a 3.42 posi rear and a TH350C. I think its basically a th350 with a lock-up converter.
