Question on Intake Manifold

I bought my 70 camaro not knowing really anything about it. Im trying to figure out just what my motor has on it. I took off the carb to rebuild it, and in doing so i took a look at the intake manifold's serial/model number. I looked all over the net, and im yet to find anything about this intake manifold. It is a gm intake, model # 14044886. If anyone can get any info on this intake please let me know... thanks in advance.

Re: Question on Intake Manifold

look at the casting number on the rear of the block if possible. That will tell you alot.

is this a four barrel or two barrel manifold??

Re: Question on Intake Manifold

its a 4 barrel manifold for certain, and im like 90 percent about the number (it was kinda dark at the time i checked). But ill check again and let you know. Also its a dual plane manifold (although im not sure if gm made single or not).

Re: Question on Intake Manifold

In general, GM doesn't make high performance intakes for their stock engines. The only exceptions being the late 60's hi-po Z/28 intakes (which the casting numbers are well known not to mention rare) and their crate engines which also have easily identifiable casting numbers. If yours isn't ringing any bells then I would safely assume that it's just a run of the mill factory q-jet 4bbl intake with the advantage of being aluminum, if it is. That being assumed, then factory GM intakes were basically edelbrock performer intakes, good from idle-5000rpm, with emphasis on building low speed torque by utilizing relatively small runners. It will be a fine intake for a street/mild perf 350 engine up to probably 350-370HP and around 400ft/lbs. You need not spend good money on a new intake unless you want to. Free advice.

Re: Question on Intake Manifold

I put your manifold number into Google and came up with a guy on a corvette website asking the same question, but there was no direct link to the question or the answer (it would require searching the site). Give it a shot.

Check the manifold and see if there is a 'snowflake' cast into it. If there is, its special and worth some bucks.
